Riki Wessels will make his competitive debut for Notts Outlaws in Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Lancashire Lightning at Old Trafford.

Wessels has scored heavily in the Second Eleven and will open the batting alongside Akhil Patel.

Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell has also assured him of his place in the side for Wednesday’s floodlit match against Gloucestershire Gladiators at Trent Bridge (play starts 4.10pm).

“Realistically, we need to win both of these games to put ourselves in a decent position when the competition resumes,” said Newell.

“Riki performed well in pre-season and he has scored a lot of runs in the Secon Eleven and one day cricket will be his way-in to our four day side.”

Sam Wood keeps his place in a Notts Outlaws line-up full of batting Andre Adams, Ben Phillips & Darren Pattinson representing a strong tail.
