Nottinghamshire batsman Alex Hales erased memories of his debut duck in International Twenty20 cricket by putting West Indies to the sword at The Oval.

Hales (62) eased England to victory with 28 balls to spare in partnership with Craig Kieswetter. Samit Patel (2-23) and Graeme Swann (1-30) bowled well to restrict West Indies to 125 all out despite an explosive start.

Patel removed openers Charles (36) and Smith (33) who had put on fifty runs in the first six overs.

"I was pleased with Samit, he got a vital wicket to set the platform for Ravi and Jade DernbachpastedGraphic.pdf at the death,” said Swann, making his bow as England captain in the absence of Stuart Broad.

“Kieswetter has shown what he can do before and it was important for Hales who I've seen do that regularly at Notts."

England will take on the same opposition on Sunday evening.
