Nottinghamshire batsman Alex Hales and Michael Lumb fired England to victory to clinch victory in their T20 series against New Zealand.

Lumb struck a six out of the stadium to secure victory in the 13th over after England's bowlers had restricted the hosts to 139-8.

Hales hit 80 off 48 balls after a shaky start to underline his emergence as a leading global exponent in the format.

"There was a bit in the pitch early on and I didn't make a great start but I got a couple away and felt comfortable after that," said Hales.

"If it's in the arc I try to hit through it and luckily enough it came off for me today. I always look to play positively but the bowlers had set the game up nicely and me and Lumby just had to keep calm and finish it off."

The unbeaten 143-run opening partnership sets a new record for t20 international second innings scores without losing a wicket.

Lumb will now return to Trent Bridge to resume pre-season training whilst Hales travels to Australia to join the England Lions tour.

New Zealand will face England at Trent Bridge for a NatWest Series One Day International 5 June 2013 and match tickets are now on general sale.
