Nottinghamshire batsman Alex Hales will make his Royal London One-Day International debut against India at Bristol on Monday.

England captain Alastair Cook has confirmed that Hales will join him in the opening pair with Ian Bell batting at number three.

"Alex has scoed four hundreds for Nottinghamshire at a good rate in the last month and that's very pleasing," said Cook.

"He has an unorthodox technique that works well for him and he's got a chance in these five games to show what he can do."

Hales has been in outstanding form for Nottinghamshire this season after bouncing back from an early-season omission in the LV= County Championship.

He returned from a brief loan spell at Worcestershire in fine form and has been a leading light in all formats.

“He is a different batter to the other guys," said Cook.

"He hits the ball incredibly hard and he hits it in slightly different areas."

Hales will miss Tuesday's Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-final at Trent Bridge.

Tickets for Tuesday's game are now on general sale priced £10 for adults, £7 for over 65s and under 21s, and £2 for under 16s with informal hospitality on offer for £30.
