Background

Notts Outlaws face Yorkshire Vikings in Saturday’s NatWest T20 Blast match at Trent Bridge (2.30pm start).

Both sides are challenging towards the top of the North Division and the battle for the two points could be pivotal towards qualification for the quarter finals.

Head To Head

In our domestic T20 competition Notts have faced Yorkshire on 20 previous occasions, ten at home and ten away.

Notts hold an overall advantage, having won 12 matches, to Yorkshire’s 7. The only fixture not to be scheduled for either Trent Bridge or Headingley, the 2012 clash at Scarborough, was washed away as a No Result.

At Trent Bridge Notts have won 7 of the matches (2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013) with Yorkshire winning 3 times (2005, 2008, 2012).

Last Time

Notts Outlaws met the Yorkshire Vikings at Trent Bridge towards the end of last year’s qualifying programme, with the fate of both sides already determined.

Notts had secured a passage to the quarter finals, with their visitors having missed out. As a consequence, the match was a bit of a damp squib with the Outlaws comfortably chasing down a low total. Yorkshire included two T20 debutants, Alex Lees and Will Rhodes.

Having already won the match at Headingley, Notts were quickly on control of the return and stifled the batsmen after Yorkshire elected to bat first.

With Samit Patel taking 3-17, including 2 wickets inside the first 4 overs, the Vikings struggled their way to 132-7, which was boosted by a late cameo from Rich Pyrah, who reached 42 from just 25 balls.

Despite a couple of cheap wickets going down at the other end, Alex Hales led the chase from the top of the order, blasting his way to 62 from 38 balls, hitting 5 big sixes, to go with four other boundaries.

David Hussey made 28, before Riki Wessels and Chris Read saw the home side to a 6-wicket win with 23 balls to spare.

Played For Them Both

Gary Keedy is still awaiting the opportunity of making his first class debut for Nottinghamshire. The spinner, currently working as physio and playing for Notts seconds, played one match for Yorkshire in the County Championship back in 1994, before moving to Lancashire.

Three other members of the current Notts staff, Michael Lumb, Phil Jaques and Ajmal Shahzad (pictured), have also played for the White Rose county.

Amongst the others to have represented both are Greg Blewett, Brian Bolus, Mike Bore, Mark Broadhurst, Gareth Clough, Younis Khan, Ashley Metcalfe, Ryan Sidebottom, Barry Stead, Richard Stemp and Alex Wharf.

History

The first meeting in T20 competition was in 2003, at Headingley and Yorkshire’s Michael Lumb won the man of the match award for a brutal knock of 55 from 26 balls, with 4 fours and 5 sixes.

For good measure, he followed it up with bowling figures of 3-0-32-3, dismissing Kevin Pietersen, Bilal Shafayat and Will Smith.

Yorkshire won the 2008 meeting at Trent Bridge by 9 wickets but then found themselves deducted 2 points for fielding an unregistered player, Azeem Rafiq.
