Background

Notts Outlaws play their third match in the NatWest T20 Blast on Friday, when they host Durham Jets at Trent Bridge (6pm start).

The Outlaws began their campaign with victory over Lancashire Lightning but lost against Worcestershire Rapids last Friday.

Durham, who now call themselves the Jets, having been Durham Dynamos for the first eleven years of the domestic competition, beat Worcestershire in their opening match before facing Lancashire at home on Thursday evening – a fixture in Chester-le-Street that has somehow been sandwiched in between the two fixtures in Nottingham.

Head To Head

Notts Outlaws have played a total of 17 t20 matches against Durham, winning 9, losing 6 and with two matches being abandoned.

Solely in Nottingham, the Outlaws have won 6 and lost 2 of the 8 games played.

Last Time

Durham triumphed for only the second time at Trent Bridge last July, chasing down a victory target of 160 to win by 3 wickets.

Put in, Notts made 159-7, with James Taylor (pictured)  top-scoring with 54 before falling to the final ball of the innings. Alex Hales made 41 and Samit Patel 33 but the home side would have hoped for a few more having been 92-2 at the start of the 12th over.

The visitors were in some strife at 44-4 but an innings of explosive brilliance from Ben Stokes swung the match their way. Playing only as a batsman, the left-hander scored an unbeaten 72 from 48 balls, with 1 four and 5 sixes, to lead his side to their victory target, with the winning runs coming from the final ball of the contest.

History

On the very first day of T20 cricket in this country the opening match of the new tournament featured Durham at home to Notts.

The game was played at Chester-le-Street on 13th June 2003 and it was Durham who emerged victorious, with a 6-wicket triumph.

Jason Gallian (pictured) skippered Notts and led the charge with an innings of 62 as his side posted 157-7.

Opener Nicky Peng led the response with an innings of 49, as the home county cantered to their target with five balls to spare.

Teams for that very first contest:

Durham: Peng, Mustard, Wells, Thorpe, G Pratt, Lewis, Muchall, Hunter, Phillips, Killeen, Davies

Notts: Gallian, Afrzaal, Welton, Pietersen, Shafayat, Franks, Clough, Noon, Logan, Harris, MacGill

Played For Them Both

Six cricketers have played in first class matches for both Nottinghamshire and Durham. The first to do so was wicketkeeper Chris Scott, who played 63 times for Notts between 1981-1991, then moved north to join Durham for their debut season in the county championship.

Others to have represented the two counties include: Mark Saxelby, Nathan Astle, John Morris, Will Smith and Mark Davies.
