Nottinghamshire’s Academy toppled Clifton Village CC to finish fourth in the Notts Premier League thanks to an unbeaten 90 from Jake Libby and 4-42 from young spinner Connor Marshall.

Early wickets from Luke Wood and Brett Hutton put the Academy on the front foot, before Marshall’s spin worked wonders against the middle order.

Ably supported by a couple of wickets for Adam Tillcock and a second for Wood, Marshall broke the back of the Clifton batting line up.

Some late resistance saw Clifton push toward 200 but a run out from Jake Libby saw the innings close on 197, Alastair Walters the unbeaten batsman on 32.

Libby, opening the batting with Joe New, provided an excellent anchor for the Academy innings, forging an excellent partnership with Hassan Azad after New nicked behind early.

Azad made 59 before being run out off a no-ball, before cameos from Anuj Dal and Dan Freeman saw the Academy past the total in the 39th over, the final score 199-3.

Notts’ late season renaissance ended with a seven-wicket win and 20 points gained to finish fourth in the Nottinghamshire Premier League.
