Nottinghamshire’s Second Eleven fell to a narrow two-run defeat to Yorkshire in their three-day friendly, after having been set 285 to win in 54 overs.

A century for opening batsman Jake Libby provided the main source of runs for the visitors to Harrogate CC, but lost partners regularly.

Contributions from Will Root, Brett Hutton and Matt Cross showed promise, but with no batsman able to register scores above 35, Yorkshire’s dominance slowly grew.

When Josh Shaw – the pick of the Yorkshire bowlers with 4-59 off 12.5 overs – had Libby caught by Will Rhodes for 112, Notts required 52 runs to win.

A late stand from captain Paul Franks offered hope and with the winning total in sight he struck a four to bring his side within a boundary of victory. However it wasn’t to be, Franks bowled to give Shaw his fourth.

Yorkshire’s second innings was earlier dominated by the spin of Adam Tillcock and Matt Carter. The pair took seven wickets between them, twice claiming two in two balls to ensure that Yorkshire’s lead remained below 300.
