No play was possible on the final day of Nottinghamshire's Second Eleven Championship match against Leicestershire as the weather scuppered any chance of a home victory at Notts Sports Club after they had dominated the first two days.

Luke Wood began day two in fine fashion, removing Dan Redfern for 26 with the fourth ball of the day, the batsman edging through to third slip.

Rob Taylor joined the action and backed up his first innings bowling, where he took 6-60, with a composed middle order half century.

The Scotland international reached his fifty with a boundary in the 30th over, the landmark coming up off 57 balls, Leicestershire recovering from 36-3 to 103-3.

However, the hosts were back on top before the lunch interval, Alex Thomson out to Gidman’s first ball before Michael Burgess edged behind off the same bowler, both batsmen falling for 11.

Taylor was unmoved though and alongside Tom Wells, who had 16 by lunch, he guided his side to 152-5, ending the session unbeaten on 67.

In the second session the 200 had just been reached in the 56th over when Taylor (86) was bowled by Matt Carter, Tom Cullen joining Wells, the latter reaching his fifty in the 60th over with the score moving to 227-6.

He couldn’t kick on from his fifty, Wood trapping him LBW for 64, Wayne White coming in to join Cullen as the pair looked to reel in Nottinghamshire’s first innings total of 364-9.

Brothers Matt and Andy Carter, on his return from injury, kept the hosts on top, the latter bowling Cullen for 19 before the younger of the siblings, Matt, bowled Jigar Naik for eight.

Last man Connor Harvey joined White but he could only add 11, Leicestershire all out for 298 when Adam Tillcock trapped him LBW.

Nottinghamshire took the field for their second innings with a lead of 66 with 35 overs left in the day and Greg Smith and Jake Libby opening the innings.

Bad light brought a slight delay after two overs and when play resumed the home side lost both openers in the space of two overs.

Libby was caught by keeper Burgess off Harvey’s bowling for five off the last ball of the eighth before Smith was caught at second slip by Rob Taylor off Atif Sheikh in the ninth, the hosts falling to 15-2.

Sam Wood was joined by Will Root the latter couldn’t make it to the end of play, caught by Eben Kurtz at gully off Harvey’s bowling for 14.

Two balls later play was stopped again by bad light and rain and no further play took place, the close of play score 46-3, Wood not out 11 and Dan Christian yet to score.
