Rohit Sharma scored his maiden ICC Cricket World Cup century as India progressed to the Semi-Finals with a 109 run victory over Bangladesh.

The opener scored 137 off 126 balls for the holders, sharing a fourth-wicket stand of 122 with Suresh Raina, who scored 65 in a total of 302-6 at the MCG.

Nobody has chased a score of 300 plus in One Day International cricket at the venue and Umesh Yadav's career-best 4-31 ensured that record stayed very much intact.

India won the toss, elected to bat and started steadily with the opening pair of Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan adding 75 in 16.3 overs.

Dhawan was stumped off the bowling of Shakib Al-Hasan having contributed 30 off 50 balls. And with India 115-3 after 28 overs, Bangladesh were well in the contest prior to Raina's arrival at the crease.

But it took just 15.5 overs for Sharma and Raina to take the score to 237; the India number five striking seven fours and a six in his 57 ball stay at the crease.

Sharma, meanwhile, reached his sixth One Day International hundred, in 108 balls with ten fours and a six, before hitting the accelerator to add a further 37 from his final 16 deliveries.

By the time he was fifth man out, bowled by Taskin Ahmed - who also accounted for Ajinkya Rahane for 19 and MS Dhoni for six en route to figures of 3-69 - Sharma had struck 14 fours and three sixes.

Ravi Jadeja's unbeaten 23 off ten balls at the death saw India past 300 for the third successive time when batting first in the tournament.

And for Bangladesh in reply, only Sabbir Rahman and Nasir Hossain passed 30; the seventh wicket pair adding 50 for the underdogs in 7.5 overs, only for the last four wickets to fall for four runs as the Tigers were all out, in 45 overs, for 193.

India, who emerged from the group stages unbeaten, will play Pakistan or Australia in the Semi-Finals on Thursday 26 March.
