England calls had prevented Samit Patel from spending the past two pre-season tours with Notts but the all-rounder thoroughly enjoyed taking part in his first Barbados T20 Cup and confirmed the primary goal was achieved on Sunday evening.

“We set out to win the tournament and we managed to do that so it’s been a great effort from the boys to get three wins over the weekend,” he said.

“It’s been great for some of the lads to come and get exposure to different conditions and to still win 3 out of 3, I think we’ve done very well.”

Patel, who had scored a fine century earlier in the week, only had a bit part to play with the bat, due to the fine form of the top three but his miserly bowling was pivotal as he and Steven Mullaney reduced opposition run-scoring to a crawl each time.

“The wicket did help us to be honest,” he confirmed.

“The conditions were ideal for me and Mull but I think all the bowlers bowled really well.

“There were no weak links and we didn’t mess about with the order too much, so fair play to all of the lads.”

Patel is a firm believer in the values to be taken from winning cricket matches.

“We came out here trying to win a competition and we managed to do that.

“We talk about momentum all the time and getting into winning habits and we’re doing that at the moment. There’s a good little feel around the camp right now.”
