Jake Libby has signed a new two-year contract with Nottinghamshire, keeping him at the Club until the end of the 2019 season.

The Plymouth-born opener has amassed 1,200 runs, including three centuries, since making his debut against Sussex in the last game of the 2014 season.

Having formed a crucial partnership with Steven Mullaney at the top of the red ball order, Director of Cricket Mick Newell is challenging the 24-year-old to make further progress in the next couple of years.

“We liked Jake from the moment we saw him and in the years he has been here I think he has improved a lot as a player,” said Newell.

“He is the sort of player that we need to balance out the stroke makers that are in our four day side and going forward we see him as a key player to push the Championship side forward.

“At the top of the order, Jake and Steven Mullaney complement each other really well. It is a very hard working partnership.

“One of Jake’s primary roles is to see off the new ball and make batting easier for people later in the day.

“He has done an excellent job. He gives 100% to the Club, works very hard to improve his game and offers a lot around the dressing room in four-day cricket.

“Jake has played well in the second team in 50 over cricket and there is no reason why that format is beyond him moving forward.

“From his perspective you don’t just want to play one format of the game and I am sure his next target would be to establish himself in that side as well.”
