Seam bowler Mark Footitt has been ruled out for the season, Head Coach Peter Moores has confirmed.

The left-armer returned to the Club in July after spells at first Derbyshire and then Surrey on a two-and-half-year deal.

The 31-year-old began promisingly as he took 2-49 and 2-46 against his former Derbyshire team-mates in what ended as an innings victory for Notts after an Alex Hales double hundred.

But he has since been ruled out of both home and away games against Northamptonshire and the match with Worcestershire with a persistent neck injury.

The problem will also force him to miss next week’s match against Sussex at Hove, meaning he will play no further part in the remaining 2017 campaign as Notts strive to win the Specsavers County Championship Division Two title.

Head Coach Peter Moores said: "It's really disappointing for him, especially after he started well after what was obviously quite a big move for him, coming back to the Club where he started.

"There is stress somewhere in his neck which needs sorting out and that is going to rule him out for the rest of the season.

"James Pipe has got it scanned, checked out and put a programme in place to get him sorted and then we will go from there."
