Nottinghamshire are about to embark on the new 2018 season, where they are back in Specsavers County Championship Division One after a one-year hiatus. In the lead-up to it, trentbridge.co.uk is running the rule over their seven opponents, one each day – with a little bit of help from left-arm seamer Harry Gurney. Today we focus on Hampshire.

Hampshire

Captain: James Vince (pictured).

First-team Coach: Craig White.

Championship overseas player: Hashim Amla (South Africa) and Dale Steyn (South Africa).

Championship signing: Sam Northeast (Kent).

Ground: The Ageas Bowl.

Betting odds: 8-1.

Harry says: “Over the last three or four years, they have flirted with relegation and managed to stay up, but they’ll be looking to put that right by finishing in the top half this year. They’ve signed some very good players this winter, including Hashim Amla, who we know from his time at Notts is one of the best batsmen in the world, and Sam Northeast, who has been very prolific domestically.”
