Five runners from the Trent Bridge community team defied the sweltering conditions to successfully complete the London Marathon.

With temperatures soaring to 24 C, the quintet kept their cool to safely cover the 26 miles 385 yards and make it from the start in Greenwich to the finish in the Mall.

First home for the team was Josh Scully in 4 hours, 41 minutes, 30 seconds, followed by Matt Wood (4.41.44), Tim Eatherington (5.06.28), Gareth Isaac (5.23.30) and Mandy Wright (6.06.35).

“When I ran last year the temperature at the finish was 16 C and it was in the mid-20s this time, which made it tough for everyone and slowed a lot of people down,” said Elite Pathway Manager Wood.

“The main thing, though, was that we all made it round in one piece because I saw quite a lot of other runners requiring medical attention as I was making my way round.”

The team were running for the Lord’s Taverners charity, with whom they work on a regular basis in their day jobs.

They are hoping to raise more than £10,000 in total and you can still sponsor them by clicking here.
