Nottinghamshire captain Steven Mullaney has been chosen to lead England in their 50-over Tri-Series against India A and West Indies A.

The 31-year-old will skipper for four matches between 22 June and 29 June, with potentially a final to follow at the Kia Oval on 2 July.

Mullaney’s selection comes after he led the North to a 2-1 victory in the North-South Series in the Caribbean this spring and has followed that up with some excellent form at the start of the 2018 season.

The right-handed batsman already has centuries to his name in both the Specsavers County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup and has captained the Green and Golds astutely in both formats.

“The selectors think I deserve this opportunity at this present time, and it’s one I hope I can grab with both hands.”

“I’m delighted to get some recognition from some of the performances I have put in this year and also from what I did in the North-South series,” said Mullaney.

“The selectors think I deserve this opportunity at this present time, and it’s one I hope I can grab with both hands.”

Mullaney’s selection means he will miss the Specsavers County Championship matches against Essex and Worcestershire.

No decision has yet been made by the Notts management on his replacement as skipper for those matches.

The Lions also play a four-day game against India A at Blackfinch New Road, Worcester, from July 16-19, with a separate squad to be named for that fixture nearer the time.
