Ross Taylor has become the latest in a long list of world-class overseas players to have represented Notts. Here’s five things you may not know about the New Zealand international batsman.

************

1. The full name of Notts’ latest signing is Luteru Ross Poutoa Lote Taylor, but is often recorded as Ross Luteru Taylor. It is said to be because, in his younger days, he did not realise he needed to print his full name for official records when asked to fill in a questionnaire at a first-class match.

2. Aside from his spells in county cricket for Durham and Sussex, Taylor has also played club cricket in England for Norfolk side Norwich Wanderers. That spell came in the early Noughties when he was just starting to make his way in the game.

3. The right-handed batsman has three children. Daughter Mackenzie is six and son Jonty turned four in February while a second daughter, Adelaide, was born last August.

4. Taylor underwent an operation in 2016 to remove a pterygium, a small benign growth, from his left eye. It didn’t stop him scoring an unbeaten 102 off 134 balls for New Zealand against Pakistan just days before the surgery.

5. The Wellington-born player celebrates his 34th birthday today and shares his birthdate with actor Freddie Prinze Junior, tennis player Petra Kvitova and current Real Madrid President Florentino Perez.
