Head Coach Peter Moores has confirmed the Nottinghamshire squad for the pre-season tour to Potchefstroom, South Africa.

A total of 14 players along with support staff will fly out tomorrow, where they will train until returning home on 18 March.

Chris Nash is already out in South Africa and will link up with the squad when they arrive, while Paul Coughlin will join the North squad for the North-South series once the England Lions’ tour of the West Indies comes to a conclusion.

Riki Wessels and Samit Patel miss the trip as they are playing in the Pakistan Super League.

Stuart Broad will not travel as he is soon to link up with the England squad ahead of their Test series with New Zealand.

The trip includes two friendly matches against fellow Specsavers County Championship Division One side Yorkshire.

“They will be good opposition and both sides will take it for what it is, win lose or draw, but you want to be competitively and you can test out where you are at,” said Moores.

“We tend to do that as much as we can in practice by putting ourselves under some level of pressure so we can feel where we are at.

“But the real gauge is where you start playing the opposition and we have the two games against Yorkshire then, when we come back, a nice blend of a match against Northants, the university match against Cambridge and a match at Leicestershire.”

Full Notts squad to travel to South Africa: Jake Ball, Jack Blatherwick, Matt Carter, Luke Fletcher, Mark Footitt, Harry Gurney, Ben Kitt, Jake Libby, Connor Marshall, Matt Milnes, Steven Mullaney, Tom Moores, Chris Nash, Billy Root, Luke Wood.
