The ICC World Cup arrives in Nottingham with the first of five matches at the iconic Trent Bridge venue being staged on Friday 31 May 2019 between West Indies and Pakistan.

Both nations have been hugely successful in this competition in the past and will be hoping to add another success to their list of honours.

West Indies won each of the first two editions of the competition, in 1975 and 1979. They were then the defeated finalists in 1983.

Pakistan were winners in 1992 and lost in the 1999 final, the last time the event was staged in England.

Trent Bridge has welcomed supporters of both cricketing nations on many occasions in the past. Pakistan were here as recently as two weeks ago, losing to England in the fourth match in the Royal London One-Day series.

West Indies have a proud record in Nottingham, winning five out of their six completed matches at the venue. Their last visit, for a match against England two years ago, coincided with the only ODI of the 45 played at Trent Bridge to be lost to the weather.

At Nottingham

This will be the eighth scheduled ODI fixture at Trent Bridge for the West Indies cricket team, although one match was rained off.

West Indies have played England five times here, losing the first meeting in 1984 but winning the next four matches, in 1995, 2000, 2004 and 2007.

Additionally, West Indies played and defeated New Zealand at Trent Bridge, 40 years ago, in the 1979 World Cup.

Pakistan have played 13 One-Day Internationals at Trent Bridge, winning 7 and losing 6.

Against England they have won 3 and lost 5 of their 8 meetings.

Three of their other wins have come in previous World Cup matches at Nottingham.

In 1975 they defeated Sri Lanka, in 1979 they beat Australia and four years later they had the better of New Zealand.

A further World Cup match saw them lose to South Africa in 1999.

Pakistan also defeated Australia in a 2001 match, made notorious by play being suspended due to flares being thrown onto the outfield.

West Indies v Pakistan

Have met in 135 previous One-Day Internationals.

The first meeting was in England, a Group match during the 1975 Prudential World Cup, at Edgbaston.

West Indies have won 70 of the meetings, including that first clash, which they narrowly won by just one wicket.

They also played each other in the semi-final of the 1979 and 1983 World Cups, both at The Oval, with the West Indies winning both matches.

The West Indies team were also victorious in World Cup meetings in 1992 (Melbourne), 2007 (Kingston) and 2015 (Christchurch).

Pakistan have won 60 of the meetings, including the most recent, two years ago in Guyana.

Pakistan’s first win came in 1981 in Adelaide in the World Series Cup.

They have won three World Cup matches, in 1987 (Lahore), in 1999 (Bristol) and 2011 (Mirpur).

There have been 3 Tied Matches (1991 Lahore), (1993 Georgetown) and (2013 Gros Islet).

Two other matches, 2006 Rawalpindi and 2008 Lahore, weren’t played due to adverse weather conditions.
