Zak Chappell made early inroads before the Bank Holiday Monday rain closed in during the opening day of Nottinghamshire’s Second XI clash with Durham.

Chappell, sharing the new ball with skipper Peter Trego, removed Graham Clark (7) in his second over, before castling his replacement Michael Jones for two.

While the 24-year-old secured the scalps, Trego was miserly at the other end, going for just six runs from his five overs.

However, inclement conditions curtailed play inside ten overs – a stoppage which lasted for the rest of the day.

And no further play was possible on day two as the weather continued to wreak havoc with the fixture.
