Samit Patel has been signed by Lanka Premier League side Galle Gladiators for the second edition of the Sri Lanka based franchise T20 competition.

Patel, who in the summer celebrated becoming the first Englishman to take 250 wickets and score 5,000 runs in the history of T20 cricket, and the fifth player ever to do so, heads to the sub-continent having previously represented Dambulla Viikings in 2020.

The middle-order batter averaged 21 with the bat for the Viikings, including a match-winning 58 from 38 balls against Kandy Tuskers, while going at an economy rate of just 7.83 for his seven wickets.

Having been postponed from August, the competition begins on December 5 with Patel’s Gladiators facing Jaffna Kings with all group matches played at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

It will be Patel’s second short-format tournament in quick succession, following a stint in Abu Dhabi’s T10 league with Northern Warriors.

Patel joins Alex Hales, Joe Clarke and Ben Duckett on overseas assignments in the winter, with Notts’ top order trio plying their trade in the Big Bash League in Australia which starts in December.
