Ben Duckett scored a composed century as Nottinghamshire passed 300 having been inserted on the opening day of their County Championship fixture against Glamorgan at Trent Bridge.

A 116-run partnership between Duckett and Steven Mullaney provided a solid platform for the hosts, but the latter’s dismissal with 23 overs of play remaining was the first of six evening session dismissals, taking the score from 258-4 to 302 all out.

It came after both Haseeb Hameed, run out backing-up at the non striker's end, and Joe Clarke, bowled after the ball deflected off his forearm, had made promising starts but failed to capitalise in the most unfortunate of circumstances.

It was a seam quartet who did the damage for the visitors, with Micheal Hogan, Tim van der Gugten, Micheal Neser and Marnus Labushagne claiming the wickets.

Having been asked to bat, Nottinghamshire claimed three batting points with their triple century of runs, with a fast bowling arsenal including Dane Paterson and Jimmy Pattinson set to be unleashed by the Green and Golds on day two, after a six over spell at the end of play brought action aplenty but not wickets.

Earlier, Notts’ sole loss in the opening blows was that of Ben Slater, who edged to former Nottinghamshire loanee Sam Northeast at second slip off the bowling of Michael Neser.

Hameed and Ben Duckett cashed in on some full bowling from Glamorgan in response to the early wicket, though, with the former finding the straight and cover boundary with regularity as he raced towards fifty. Duckett, meanwhile, looked intent on cashing in on a dropped opportunity by Northeast in the slips.

Hameed played with elegance, and was denied only by misfortune when a crisp Duckett straight drive deflected off the foot of James Weighall and onto the stumps with the opener, who had made 34, caught short of his ground with the score on 69.

Joe Clarke assumed the mantle in typically aesthetic fashion. Both he and his left-handed counterpart looked relatively untroubled as they guided the home side to lunch.

Having struck a couple of handsome cover drives, and pulled Lloyd over the square leg boundary for six, Clarke’s demise came after the break when van der Gugten's lifting delivery dislodged the bails via the forearm of the previously untroubled right-hander.

Duckett's half-century was brought up with a bottom edge through the slip cordon, shortly before Joey Evison was adjudged to be trapped in front of the stumps by the same bowler with the hosts slipping to 142-4.

Mullaney - fresh from a career-best 192 against Sussex - steadied the ship with Duckett, swatting belligerently to the boundary to the delight of the returning patrons, the pair reaching their 50 run partnership from 62 deliveries.

Duckett revelled in the arrival of right-arm spinner Andrew Salter, reverse sweeping over the protective Glamorgan ring, as he strode towards three figures, before reaching the landmark with a conventional sweep in the over before tea, his tenth four.

With 35 having been added to the scoreboard after the interval, Mullaney departed driving Hogan to cover for 44, while Moores - caught behind off Labuschagne - and Liam Patterson-White - given lbw to Hogan - also returned to the dressing room for respective scores of 0 and 4.

After Duckett was eventually dismissed for a 207 delivery 122, caught and bowled by Labuschagne, Notts needed their tail to wag to reach their third bonus point and, after Brett Hutton's off stump was disturbed by Neser, Paterson and Pattinson reached the landmark with a succession of hefty blows.
