Joey Evison took three wickets but a late lower-order partnership saw Glamorgan finish Day Two with the momentum on a glorious Good Friday at Trent Bridge.

It took the Green and Golds just 15 minutes to secure the first breakthroughs in the morning courtesy of James Pattinson and Brett Hutton, before a firm partnership for the third wicket saw the Welsh side add another 117 with no further loss.

Hutton struck again to break that stand an hour into the afternoon, and Notts, led by a scintillating Evison spell, then proceeded to take a further five wickets for 50 runs as Glamorgan fell to 248 for eight.

However, a century ninth-wicket stand pushed them beyond 300 and into a first innings lead, before Liam Patterson-White did at least rein them back in by breaking that stand with a few overs remaining, as the visitors closed on 354 for nine.

Earlier, forecasters had predicted the warmest day of the year so far as the long Easter weekend arrived, and so it proved, with the mercury touching 21°C as spectators and players alike basked in bright West Bridgford sunshine.

That pointed to good batting conditions as Glamorgan openers Lloyd and Andrew Salter resumed on their overnight 33 without loss, but Australian quick Pattinson saw the latter held by Joe Clarke in the slips for 16.

Hutton then snared the big wicket of world number one-ranked Test batter Marnus Labuschagne, as he shouldered arms to one that pinned him in front for three, before Lloyd and Sam Northeast steadied the ship.

Both made fifty either side of lunch as the visitors took back the momentum, passing 150 shortly after the interval, before Hutton proved the man of the moment as he removed Lloyd for 76, caught by Ben Duckett in the slips.

Evison then picked up the scalps of Kiran Carlson and Chris Cooke for 22 and nought, respectively, as both feathered the Academy graduate all-rounder through to Tom Moores behind the stumps.

Dane Paterson removed Callum Taylor as Clarke took another smart catch, and Glamorgan teetered at 214 for six, having lost three for 16, and still 88 in arrears.

Another burst was then precipitated by Evison after tea as he forced the second Australian member of the visitors’ line-up, Michael Neser, to play on for 20.

Just four balls later, Paterson then snared another as Northeast’s 162-ball knock, in which he amassed 85, also came to an end as he saw his off stump uprooted.

However, it fell to James Weighell and Timm van der Gugten to provide much late frustration for the Green and Golds, as their ninth-wicket stand of 106 added three further batting bonus points and handed the Welsh outfit a first-innings lead.

Van der Gugten made fifty shortly before Patterson-White removed Weighell for 48, but more stout resistance in the final trappings of the day’s play meant there was no further joy for Notts, Glamorgan closing with a lead of 52.
