Academy all-rounder Ben Martindale has penned a professional contract with Nottinghamshire, spanning to the conclusion of this season’s Royal London Cup.

The 19-year-old left-handed batter and right-arm seamer has joined-up with the Outlaws’ first team squad ahead of Wednesday’s Royal London Cup fixture against Gloucestershire at Bristol.

He has featured on 14 occasions in competitive cricket for the club’s Second XI this season, primarily batting at the top of the order and posting 333 Championship runs at an average of 28.

Martindale’s top score of 93 for the twos came in the red-ball fixture against Derbyshire in May. He also posted 50 off 42 deliveries in an opening stand of 133 with Sol Budinger in last month’s 50-over friendly against Leicestershire.

A product of the junior section at Ellerslie Cricket Club, Martindale currently plays Nottinghamshire Premier League cricket for Hucknall.

His father, Duncan, played 67 times for Nottinghamshire spanning 1985 to 1991.

Following in the footsteps of Fateh Singh and Sammy King who made their first team debuts in the 50-over competition in 2021, Martindale is eager to learn from the experience.

“I’m delighted to be able to sign for the club I’ve been with from a young age,” he said. “It’s a step in the right direction as I continue to develop as a cricketer.

“It is a privilege to be around players with so much experience and to discover first-hand how high the standards are set within the group.

“I’ve learned a lot over the last eight months off the field and in training. Hopefully I can use this opportunity in the professional ranks to continue that progression.”
