Batters cashed in as over 1,100 runs were scored in Nottinghamshire’s ECB Group One Championship game against Leicestershire at Uppingham School, Ben Wilcox top scoring in the first innings of the game with 202.

The Green and Golds prised five Foxes wickets on the final day as the hosts went in pursuit of 338 for victory, but the sides ultimately shook hands on a draw, Notts’ second in two games, following the same result against Derbyshire in their opening fixture.

Nottinghamshire had entered their third innings against Leicestershire with a lead of 114 after the hosts declared on 300/3 in response to Notts’ first innings 414, Sam Seecharan supporting Wilcox’ 333-ball vigil with a half-century.

Time was ebbing away, though, and despite amassing 223/5d in the penultimate innings, with fifties for Ben Martindale and Qundeel Haider, Leicestershire withstood the charge and batted out 43 overs, finishing on 189/5, 148 runs short of the victory target.

Across the fixture, Freddie McCann claimed three scalps in 23 overs and Drew Owen the same number across 33.

Nottinghamshire’s next fixture in the competition begins on Tuesday against Durham at Lady Bay.
