Nottinghamshire fell 86 runs short of their target despite a spirited effort, including a hundred from Sammy King, on the fourth day against Leicestershire at Uppingham School.

Requiring a further 327 runs with nine wickets in hand in pursuit of 455, Montgomery amassed 62 before being caught, while Academy graduates King and Fateh Singh made 120 and 43 respectively.

Joey Evison offered a bright 22, but none others were able to make impactful contributions as Leicestershire claimed victory in the afternoon session.

Off-spinner Nathan Bowley took three wickets as the hosts made regular impressions on the Notts line up.

King’s rearguard came off 130 balls, however, and featured 13 fours and three sixes.

His 87 run partnership with Singh took the visitors within 170 of the victory target, but the demise of the latter - caught at deep square - marked the beginning of the end, with Leicestershire sealing their win with the wicket of King in the 83rd over.
