Ben Slater praised the bowling efforts of Nottinghamshire after James Pattinson and Dane Paterson took five wickets between them in the final session of the first day against Sussex.

The opener made a half-century earlier on the day, but was one of three batters to pass 11 runs as Notts battled to 240 before being dismissed.

Reflecting on his innings, he spoke of the need to be positive on a Trent Bridge pitch which can offer assistance to seamers, as shown by the rampaging overseas duo, who reduced the visitors to 49/5 before a late fightback.
