Matthew Montgomery led from the front with a swift century on day one of the Second XI Championship fixture against Yorkshire at Lady Bay, as Notts piled on the runs to finish 305/5.

Calvin Harrison also scored an unbeaten half century, with Dane Schadendorf dismissed for a 52.

With a late start due to rain, Yorkshire inserted the hosts and took the scalps of Sol Budinger and Ben Martindale with the score on 48 and 50 respectively.

Notts’ captain and wicketkeeper - Montgomery and Schadendorf - combined to stem the flow of runs, however, and put on 50 for the third wicket before the latter was caught by Tom Loten off the bowling of Harry Sullivan shortly before the tea interval, with the hosts on 144/3 at the break.

Ximus Du Plooy and Montgomery resumed to add another 45 before the trialist was caught behind, cueing the arrival of Harrison.

Montgomery charged on undeterred, cracking 12 fours on the way to his 132-ball century, and the pair fell three short of their hundred partnership for the fifth wicket before the skipper was caught at first slip.

Harrison and Brett Hutton batted through the remaining seven overs of play, though, to ensure Notts were handily positioned heading into the second day.
