Nottinghamshire lost by nine runs to Durham in the U18 County T20, despite 3-20 for off-spinner Farhan Ahmed and a quick-fire 44 from Sam Seecharan.

Their second match against Lancashire was scuppered by rain, with Nottinghamshire 52/3 when abandonment was called after 6.2 overs.

The hosts won the toss at Billingham Synthonia Cricket Club, and made a quick start in amassing 64 off the six over powerplay, despite a wicket each for Thomas Giles and Abneer Irfan.

Ahmed, Drew Owen and Freddie McCann dragged the away side back into the contest with an economical display in the middle overs, conceding no more than eight overs while collecting two wickets.

And Ahmed claimed two more in the 17th over, supported by Faizan Minhas and Irfan, to limit Durham to 144/9.

In reply, Notts lost the wickets of in-form Travis Holland and Freddie McCann, but made good progress in reaching 50 after six overs with Sam Seecharan and Ben Wilcox at the crease.

Their 41 partnership was ended in the ninth over and, despite a run-a-ball 26 from Sam Watson, the Outlaws were behind the eight ball when both Seecharan and Sylvester were run out in the 14th over.

The loss of Watson, bowled by Mitchell Killeen further advanced Durham’s odds of a win, but Notts’ hopes were still alive with 27 required from the final three overs.

Alas, only 18 were managed as Owen chopped onto his own stumps and Giles was caught, Notts left with one wicket in hand as the hosts triumphed.

Later, Watson fired ten off three balls after the departure of Holland (13), Seecharan (4) and McCann (16) inside four overs against the Red Rose, but inclement weather suspended, and eventually prevented any further possibility of play.
