Ben Duckett admitted he was disappointed not to make three figures despite scoring a fluent 86 - the sixth time he has passed fifty this season - as Notts closed with a lead of 74 and three wickets in hand at Trent Bridge.

The left-hander struck 12 fours in his 114 balls, and said his positive approach reflects a simple desire to punish loose deliveries and respect good balls.

Duckett shared an important partnership worth 86 with Joe Clarke for the third wicket to edge towards parity, before Tom Moores and Liam Patterson-White added 56 to elevate Notts’ position in the game.
