The in-form top-three of Ben Martindale (93), Sol Budinger (82) and Dane Schadendorf (67) fired for a second week in succession as Nottinghamshire’s Second XI took a first innings lead against Derbyshire.

The trio, who had masterminded a successful fourth innings run-chase of 382-5 in the previous fixture against Leicestershire, fired the home side to an all out total of 341 for a first innings lead of 50.

The opening duo of Martindale and Budinger blitzed the Derbyshire attack in an opening stand of 184 in 31.3 overs, before Schadendorf - who had posted back-to-back centuries against the Foxes - fought against the tide of a Derbyshire fightback during his 114-ball stay at the crease.

Matt Carter (26), Alex Neal (26) and Jake Ball (20) offered lower-order support, while Alex Hughes (4-48) and Matty McKiernan (3-39) shared seven wickets for the visitors.

Derbyshire wiped out the deficit for the loss of Oli Soames (5), caught at square-leg off James Hayes, by the time the second day came to a close.
