Nottinghamshire were forced to settle with a draw after only 21.2 overs of play were possible on the final day against Middlesex at Lord’s.
With seven wickets required for a win following three days of near-perfect cricket for the Green and Golds, the hosts batted for 90 minutes unscathed, Sam Robson finishing 101* to keep his side top of the Division Two table.
It hampered what had looked to be a victory charge for Nottinghamshire, who set the home side 516 to win at tea on day three before taking three wickets in the evening session.
Max Holden showed stubborn resistance in London’s early evening sunshine alongside the former England opener, however, returning on day four having batted belligerently for six runs.
He survived another 58 balls on the morning of day four to take his tally of deliveries faced to 118, and a final unbeaten score of 18.
Nottinghamshire’s lean return was not for the want of trying on the final day with Middlesex’s obdurate approach returning a handful of edges through the slips, yet none to hand. James Pattinson, in particular, bowled with sustained hostility, following his first innings four-fer.
