Scott Steel’s unbeaten 167 guided the visiting Leicestershire to 511/7 declared in their first innings, before the Green and Golds’ top three responded with composed knocks of their own.

Sol Budinger (52), Matthew Montgomery (45) and Dane Schadendorf’s (57*) second-day efforts ensured Notts got off to a solid start in reply.

Steel, unbeaten overnight on 37, shared fruitful stands with Tom Scriven (78) and Roman Walker (38*) as the Foxes amassed in excess of 500 in the first innings.

For Notts, James Hayes (2-108), Calvin Harrison (2-107) and Matt Carter (3-94) added to their tallies on day one with a wicket apiece.

In reply, Budinger cantered to 52 from just 43 deliveries, before falling at the hands of Rehan Ahmed.

The Foxes had further success before the day was out, Montgomery was caught by Ahmed off Roman Walker, whilst Harrison departed for 15, caught by Abi Sakande off Scott Steel.

Schadendorf, however, stood firm, the right-hander finishing the day with an unbeaten half century to his name, Nottinghamshire 192/3 in reply.
