Nottinghamshire top-order batter Ben Duckett has been added to the England Test squad for the final game of the three match series against South Africa at The Oval beginning Thursday 8 September, replacing Jonny Bairstow who has sustained a lower limb injury.
The selection comes following his inclusion in England’s International T20 squad for a seven match series against Pakistan later this month.
The 27-year-old has been in a rich vein of form in the LV= Insurance County Championship this season, amassing 1,012 runs at an average of 72.28, with a high score of 241 against Derbyshire at the Incora County Ground.
His contributions have led to success for the Green and Golds, who sit at the top of Division Two with three games left of the red-ball campaign.
The left-hander’s recent form supplements over 2,000 runs scored accross the previous three County Championship seasons, contributing to a career average of 41.57 in First Class cricket at a remarkable strike-rate of 72.
Duckett also enters the England squad having made 145 off 168 balls against the Proteas for England Lions in a four-day contest at Canterbury.
The tourists went on to beat England in the opening Test at Lord’s, before losing by an innings at Old Trafford with the series result therefore resting on the finale in South London.
Duckett joins Stuart Broad as Nottinghamshire representatives in the squad.
