The Wynne-Thomas Library

All spectators are very welcome to visit the Library and explore the thousands of books on the shelves, browse the latest cricket magazines and chat to other visitors – and we are always keen to hear your comments and suggestions.

You can see two new displays:

  • The Ashes Tests at Trent Bridge looks back at the first ever Test at Trent Bridge in 1899, finds out why the crowd cheered at the antics of rival photographers at the 1934 Test, and recalls Stuart Broad’s match-winning performance in 2015.

  • Women’s Cricket at Trent Bridge revisits the early days of women’s cricket at the ground, revels in England’s successful international record at Trent Bridge, and rejoices at the last-ball victory in 1999.

Heritage displays

In the Museum Room (off the Long Room in the Pavilion) there is a new display. Women at the Wicket traces the history of women’s matches at the ground since 1907 – including the first visit of the Australians in 1951, the ‘Test match that never was’ in 1954, our only previous women’s Test in 1979, and outstanding performances by local heroes Eileen White, Enid Bakewell and Karen Smithies.

To mark the coronation of King Charles III there is a small display about the monarch’s cricketing connections on the lower ground floor of the Pavilion.

Displays about the varied talents of Peter Wynne-Thomas – our late Historian and Librarian – and his skill as a watercolour artist, cartoonist and illustrator are in the corridor near the Ticket Office.

Information panels about Notts’ knights of the realm – Sir Garry Sobers and Sir Richard Hadlee – can be seen on the ground floor of the Radcliffe Road stand, in the waiting areas named after these two giants of the game.
