Ant Botha said Matthew Montgomery was “a coaches dream” following the 23-year-old’s second first-class century at Trent Bridge which helped to nudge the hosts ahead against Essex.

The right-handed batter scored 130 without dismissal as Nottinghamshire closed the second day at 326/5.

Botha also praised the performances of Ben Slater and Joe Clarke, both of whom totted up half-centuries to surpass the visitors' first innings total.
