Alex Hales made a blistering 78 on his return to Outlaws colours as Notts secured two T20 wins over Durham at Worksop College.

Hales smashed six fours and six sixes in his 35-ball stay at the crease, including four consecutive boundaries off the seam of Mitchell Kileen.

The hosts amassed 183/7 from their 20 overs, with Sammy King contributing 39 from 25 deliveries.

Durham's pursuit of 184 suffered an early setback as Ben McKinney became the first of Samit Patel's three victims, but the visitors remained firmly in the chase as it entered its closing stages.

But wickets in each of Durham's final five overs - courtesy of Toby Pettman, Raheem Ahmed, Ben Fletcher and Patel - kept the chase in check.

Patel's final over - the 18th of the match - yielded a wicket and cost only five runs, while Pettman closed out victory by dismissing Nathan Sowter with the final ball, when Durham required four for victory.

The right-hander hit eight fours and three sixes, and found support from Ben Wilcox (24), Xavier Clarke (16) and Dane Schadendorf (38*) as the Outlaws piled on 183/3.

In reply, there were three wickets apiece for Farhan Ahmed and Thomas Giles, and two scalps for Matthew Carter, as Durham were dismissed for 83 inside 15 overs.
