Ben Slater’s 93 was the main contribution as Nottinghamshire’s batters tuned up for the new season by amassing 383 against Northamptonshire.

Batting at three, Slater’s 99-ball knock included 19 fours and one six, as the left-hander compiled his second 50+ score of pre-season on English soil, before retiring at the tea interval.

Slater shared a stand of 120 for the fourth wicket with Jack Haynes, as the new arrival notched his second successive score of 57 in Notts colours.

The hosts’ scoring rate remained above four throughout the innings, with late impetus provided by Calvin Harrison (50 from 49) and Liam Patterson-White (62 from 60) before both retired.

There were cameos from Haseeb Hameed (28), Lyndon James (25), Brett Hutton (27) and Dillon Pennington (18) before the two sides shook hands shortly before 6pm.

Earlier, Northamptonshire declared their innings closed on 212/10, with an athletic leg-side take from Tom Moores accounting for Saif Zaib off the bowling of Toby Pettman.

Notts return to action on Friday 5 April, as their Vitality County Championship season commences against Essex.
