Jack Haynes admits Notts Outlaws need to string together a run of results in their remaining games in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, as they hunt a knockout-stage qualification place.

A third away trip on the bounce awaits the Outlaws tomorrow as they prepare to face Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff (Sunday 17 August, 11am).

“Tomorrow is an important one, they all are now,” said Haynes.

“We’re probably going to have to win most if not all of them in the last four, so it’s obviously a big game.

"There’s no reason why we can’t go there and win – it’s not somewhere we play that often, or haven’t done in the last couple of years. But it’s a good opportunity for us to go down there and put our best game of cricket together.”

With a win, a tie and two losses in their four matches to date, the Outlaws are still in mix for qualification with four games remaining.

“Obviously it’s a bit disappointing that we’ve had a couple of losses in a row," said Haynes.

"We’ve not put 50 overs together with the ball in the field, and then obviously batting wise it’s been disappointing to not build big partnerships and not chase down the scores we’ve been set. So obviously we’ve got areas to improve on and hopefully we can do that in Cardiff.

“As individuals, we know what we need to do to improve. Personally I’ve had a couple of scores but not big enough to win the team matches. But as individuals we take responsibility and we all know what we need to improve on.”

Haynes has proved himself to be a pillar of consistency since his arrival from Worcestershire in the winter of 2023, being a mainstay across all formats and not missing a game for Notts in 2024 or 2025 to date.

“I’ve obviously really enjoyed it since I’ve moved," he reflected.

"It's nice to be able to play as many games as possible and it’s nice to be selected for them all.

"I’m enjoying it being part of the club and being part of the team. It’s nice to be playing as many games as possible and hopefully that can continue for the rest of the season.”

And that experience seems to be paying dividends as Haynes continues to have a fruitful season with the bat this summer, hitting four centuries in the Rothesay County Championship – including a highest score of 157 – and a career-high of 89* in the Vitality Blast.

The 24-year-old has recorded two fifties in the 50-over competition, but aims to keep things simple across all formats.

“I try not to change my game too much from format to format," he said.

"I’ll just try to keep things pretty simple and I’ll be looking to do things a little bit longer in the next couple of games and try and take things a little bit deeper, and try to put a big score on the board.”

The Outlaws will be strengthened by the return of Dillon Pennington for the occasion, who travels to Cardiff as part of a 14-man squad which sees Brett Hutton rested.

“Dill’s obviously a big asset,” Haynes said.

“It’ll be nice to have him leading the attack with his experience – he’s a big player for us and hopefully he can come in and make an impact straight away.”

An additional change within the squad sees Dane Schadendorf replace Tom Moores, who was called up to Trent Rockets for their clash in The Hundred at Trent Bridge this weekend following injury to Tom Alsop.

“The core group is pretty similar, but it’s another opportunity for someone else to come in and step up and show what they can do," said Haynes.

"That’s exciting for the club, and it’s nice for the team to have some fresh faces in.”
