Ben Duckett is set for an Indian Premier League debut in 2026 after being sold to Delhi Capitals at the tournament’s annual auction.

The deal will see the 31-year-old miss the start of the English domestic season, with next year’s edition of the IPL set to run from 26 March until 31 May.

“While we are naturally disappointed that Ben won’t be available for selection in the early part of next summer, we are equally happy to see him offered opportunities of this calibre,” said Director of Cricket, Mick Newell.

“Ben has developed his game hugely during the years he has spent at Trent Bridge, to the point that he is now seen as one of the world’s best in his position across all formats of the game.

“The IPL is the world’s most popular cricket league, and Ben has earned the opportunity to be involved in it, so he will go with our best wishes.”

England, to whom Duckett is centrally contracted, begin their 2026 summer schedule with the first of a three-match Test series against New Zealand from 4 June.

“Ben has made no secret of how much he loves playing for this club and how much esteem he holds Trent Bridge in," continued Newell.

“While our opportunities to see him at Trent Bridge may be more limited next summer, we wish him the best of luck and we’ll welcome him back when the next opportunity arises.”
