Following Steve Birks’ retirement from Trent Bridge, the Head Groundsman vacancy will be newly split into two roles.

Upon Birks’ departure in February next year, Andrew Selway-Duncan will replace him as Trent Bridge’s Head Groundsman, while Guy Toulson will take responsibility for all outgrounds.

“I’m really pleased and proud to take over from Steve and I’m honoured to have the privilege of leading the groundstaff at this unbelievable venue,” said Selway-Duncan.

“I’ve enjoyed my time working under Steve, and the opportunity to carry on the award-winning work that he led is a really exciting thought.”

With the 2026 first-team fixture schedule for both Nottinghamshire and The Blaze now confirmed, as well as England Men’s visits to Trent Bridge, Selway-Duncan is set to lead a team for up to 50 days of cricket next summer.

“We’re set for another busy summer next year, but members and supporters can rest assured we’ll be as committed as ever to producing the best wickets that lead to great cricket,” added Selway-Duncan.

“It goes without saying that all of us on the groundstaff also want to thank Steve for everything he taught us and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Meanwhile, Toulson’s remit will include four grounds in 2026, with Notts and The Blaze set to play first team matches at Welbeck CC and Queen’s Park, Chesterfield.

That is in addition to the continued use of Lady Bay and the recently-taken-out lease on West Park, for Second XI and age-group cricket across both squads.

Director of Cricket Mick Newell added: "Replacing someone who was part of our team for as long as Steve has been was always going to be a challenge, but we’ve naturally had succession plans in place for a while now.

“As a result of that careful planning, we’re very happy to appoint Andrew and Guy to take the team forward and ensure a seamless transition.

“Both are vastly experienced and very skilled at what they do, and we have no doubt that spectators at Trent Bridge will continue to see pitches of the highest quality at our venue.”
