Hampshire 291-7 defeat The Blaze, 211, by 80 runs.
Freya Kemp's maiden century was the defining factor as Hampshire defeated The Blaze to reclaim top spot of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup Women’s competition.
With The Blaze sitting first and Hampshire second heading into the day, The Blaze were unable to perform at their peak for long enough periods, with Hampshire finding, and then breaking, the key partnerships to run out victors.
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat at The Utilita Bowl, but were made to regret that decision initially as Cassidy McCarthy led a demolition in the powerplay.
McCarthy ripped through the Hampshire top three, taking three for 17 within the first nine overs as Hampshire slumped to 34-3.
Rhianna Southby (8) couldn’t keep down a bouncer to square leg before Maia Bouchier (14) was caught at mid on. The prized wicket of Australian Ellyse Perry (2) was next, wonderfully caught by Kathryn Bryce at midwicket.
Freya Kemp joined Hampshire captain Georgia Adams, and the pair immediately went into recovery mode.
They ticked along with relative comfort, setting the platform and adding 80 runs before a moment of brilliance from Sarah Bryce broke the deadlock.
Georgia Elwiss the bowler, Adams (40) was stumped down the legside as Bryce reacted wonderfully to whip the bails off, before Elwiss trapped Abi Norgrove (1) lbw to shift momentum back The Blaze's way with Hampshire 119-5 through 27 overs.
Kemp, having found fluency, needed someone to go with her, and Nancy Harman obliged. The pair added 136, as Harman reached a well made fifty, while Kemp starred with a stunning century off 86 deliveries.
Kemp finally fell on 109, caught on the rope off Kathryn Bryce, before Harman and Linsey Smith kicked on a little further to take Hampshire to 291-7 through their fifty overs, Harman run out for a fine 77 on the final delivery.
Set an intimidating total, The Blaze were unable to make early inroads, as Marie Kelly and Georgie Boyce fell in the early overs to Daisy Gibb, The Blaze in early trouble at 14-2.
The ever consistent Kathryn Bryce and Georgia Elwiss had other ideas though, and went about bringing The Blaze right back into the contest. The pair punished anything short of the length and played wonderfully through the mid-off/cover region to rattle off a 98 run partnership.
Elwiss reached her fifty off just 53 deliveries at her old stomping ground, but just as The Blaze looked to have taken the ascendancy, Hampshire struck back.
Kathryn Bryce (43) was caught, before Sarah Bryce was caught behind, The Blaze now 131-4 roughly halfway through the innings.
Ella Claridge joined Elwiss, and the pair added almost 40 more before Elwiss’s classy innings ended, bowled for 87 by Bex Tyson. Finishing on 417 runs at an average of 59.57, it's been a superb start to life in Blaze colours for Elwiss, who has been a staple of consistency throughout so many batting innings.
Ellyse Perry then made her mark, bowling Ella Claridge (22), before removing Kirstie Gordon and Josie Groves to leave The Blaze in trouble at 201-8 with eight overs to go.
Linsey Smith finished the job for Hampshire, removing Lucy Higham and Cassidy McCarthy to confirm an 80 run victory for the home side.
With Lancashire winning their fixture, The Blaze drop to third in the table before the scheduled break for The Hundred, with four key fixtures in September which will determine the makeup of the finals.
