Montgomery has excelled with bat and ball, in particular taking a career-best 4/30 against Durham on Friday, but the all-rounder says he wants such key performances to become the norm.

“Over the last few years, I’ve been trying to work out my role and where I fit in, and I think I’m slowly beginning to get to the stage where I understand that,” he said.

“I want to be useful with the ball in tough situations, but I feel as though I’m learning and growing all the time, so hopefully nights like this can happen more often!

“It helps when the groundstaff make wickets like that, it always helps us out!But I do think that’s the nature of my game, wanting to take on those high-pressure situations.

“It’s been a learning curve, and it’s obviously not easy, but I do enjoy it!”

The 25-year-old stressed that his number one target is to simply keep improving and playing his part in helping the Outlaws achieve success.

“It’s nice to perform individually, but the win is the most important thing, so hopefully we can now get on a run and get into those quarter finals.

“As it’s been for most people, my aim has been to try and grow game on game.”

Montgomery also accepted it was a pleasant situation for Notts to down Durham at Trent Bridge last week after a loss against the same opposition a week prior.

“We were all a bit disappointed with how the away fixture went, so to put in a complete performance like that, we were all feeling chuffed.

“Obviously, it was nice, and it’s the first time I’ve ever taken a four-fer, but more importantly, it felt better to contribute to a win,” he said.

“I think that’s what was missing at the start of the competition, when we couldn’t get two in a row, so let’s hope for another good week next week, and you never know!”
