Three wickets from Ben Martindale helped to consolidate a strong first day for Nottinghamshire Second XI against Glamorgan at Newport.

Martindale took 3/18 from six overs as Notts, who won the toss, dismissed their opponents for 221 in the opening exchanges of their Championship clash.

There were two wickets apiece for Joe Pocklington, Ismail Mohammed and Tom Giles, while Rob Lord got the visitors off to a positive start by removing captain Eddie Byrom.

Martindale made 40 at the top of the order as Notts began their reply, with Sammy King unbeaten on 44, as Notts reached 95/2 at stumps.
