Josh Beer slammed 96 and Saif Ali returned 4/30 as Notts Under-18s played out a tense tie with Yorkshire in the T20 County Cup.
Beer, who faced 58 balls and struck nine fours and four sixes, underpinned the visitors’ innings of 192-7 in York after captain Byron Hatton-Lowe won the toss and elected to bat first.
However, Tom Fraine’s 56 off 32 and an unbeaten 18-ball 38 by Joe White hauled the visitors level on 192-8 as a scrambled two off the final ball left the scores deadlocked.
Beer had received support from Max Kennedy, who added 32 in 19 balls, as well as farming the strike effectively in a 55-run sixth-wicket stand from just 29 balls with Oscar Butcher.
The opener went to a 37-ball fifty, before accelerating to add a further 46 in just 21 deliveries, counteracting the effects of Edward Burch’s 3/32 for the home side.
In response, Ali restricted the White Rose with figures that made him the game’s standout bowler and included the removal of both home openers to reduce them to 22-2 early on.
Fraine fought back with a 28-ball half-century that included seven fours and a six before being run out by Beer’s throw to Butcher, after which Ali claimed a further two scalps.
However, White’s late striking, which included four fours and a six, helped the hosts nail-bitingly bring themselves to parity off the final ball.
