Nottingham-born Freddie McCann knows better than most the importance of games against Derbyshire, and he can’t wait to do battle with the old enemy.

McCann played his first T20 game against the Falcons on the road last week, and is delighted to be included in an unchanged squad for the return fixture tomorrow at Trent Bridge.

“I’ve grown up here watching derby day, hoping that I’ll be playing one day!” smiled the 20-year-old.

“It was great to play last week, and hopefully I can [make an impact] on Friday.”

McCann was unbeaten at the end of a successful chase in Derby last week, and he is keen to harness that success as the Outlaws bid to return to winning ways.

“It’s not the result we wanted [yesterday against Yorkshire], but we’ll move on and think about things [today],” he said.

“The games come thick and fast, so we haven’t got much time to overthink anything, and we’ll go straight into derby day on Friday.”

The run of consecutive games provides the ideal opportunity to overcome the midweek defeat and immediately right the ship, and Notts Academy graduate McCann believes his approach to batting is well-suited to the fast-paced English summer.

“I’m playing second team cricket, so I’m playing matches all the time - potentially more than most! I just keep my technique pretty simple,” he explains.

“[Switching between formats] is not something I’ve had to do for very long, and I’ve had to adapt pretty quickly.

“It might be different games, but my technique stays the same throughout. It’s not come easy, it has been a challenge and it’s needed some hard work over the winter.

“Hopefully from that, though, I can see some results with it.”
