Sam Seecharan hit a pivotal 82 before James Hayes struck the winning six as Nottinghamshire 2nd XI earned a thrilling two-wicket win over Kent inside three days at Notts Sports Club.

Seecharan’s innings came in 122 balls to underpin the Green and Golds’ chase of 289, before Hayes gathered his nerves to strike the winning runs after Kent had threatened a comeback.

Hayes had earlier returned 3/37, taking the final two second-innings wickets to bowl the visitors out for 187, and Ben Slater then hit a swift 51 in just 46 balls to set Notts on their way.

He and Ben Martindale, who made 37 off 34, took a chunk out of the chase by speeding the score along to 86-1 after just 11 overs, before Seecharan and Sammy King took up the mantle.

King struck 52, sharing in a partnership of 113 with Seecharan, but after the latter had become the second of the duo to fall, Notts still required 22 further runs with four wickets in hand.

However, the calm head of Hayes, who fired the winning maximum back over the head of George Garrett, saw the hosts inch over the line.
