Ben Slater made 96, with captain Haseeb Hameed also hitting a half-century, as Notts made 298/6 on the first day of their Rothesay County Championship clash with Yorkshire.

Ishan Kishan, the India wicketkeeper-batter beginning a two-game spell with Notts, remains unbeaten on 44, with Patterson-White 10*, after play was curtailed two overs early by bad light.

Nottinghamshire opted to bat first and had been 90 without loss at lunch after a morning in which the only real chance created by the Yorkshire attack was squandered as Slater was dropped with the score on 47.

The first breakthrough came after just two deliveries of an afternoon session slightly delayed by rain as Hameed, who had gone to fifty just before lunch, was caught behind off a bottom edge.

Five overs later, the captain was followed back in by Freddie McCann, who had abruptly changed the tempo with four quick boundaries.

Joe Clarke, who finished the previous block of red-ball cricket with 277 runs in three innings, made 31 before being dismissed by Moriarty, courtesy of an athletic back-pedalling take from Revis.

After Jack Haynes, on eight, had escaped a sharp chance to Adam Lyth at slip off Moriarty, Slater clipped Bess to the leg-side boundary for his 12th four to move into the 90s. He would depart for 96, a seventh half-century of the season in his eighth First-Class appearance of the year.

Ishan, primarily known for his exploits in T20 cricket, announced himself with a flurry of boundaries - three in the same over off Hill - but Yorkshire’s current leading wicket-taker responded by dismissing Haynes leg before.

Lyndon James made 12 before being dismissed, but Notts were within touching distance of another batting bonus point as bad light ended play.
