Tammy Beaumont feels The Blaze are well-placed to carry their positive form on the road into tomorrow’s return to Trent Bridge to face Hampshire, for a match which coincides with the staging of the Notts Street Food Festival.

Beaumont, captaining the side in the absence of the injured Kirstie Gordon, is part of an unchanged 13-strong squad for the clash (10.30am start).

Having suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Lancashire in their season-opener, The Blaze have since gone on to record victories at Durham and Warwickshire – the latter a see-saw clash in which the visitors ultimately prevailed by 41 runs.

“We didn’t start well at home, but now we’ve got a bit of momentum from winning these two games on the road,” said Beaumont.

“But what we want to do is put results on the board at Trent Bridge – and there’s no better time to do it than for the Food Festival game.

“We all loved it last year – especially going to all the food stalls after we finished the game!

“Hopefully we get a big crowd to support us again, because it was an amazing event last year.”

Beaumont made 38 at the top of the order on Wednesday as The Blaze recovered from losing two wickets in the first over to post 252/9 from their 50 overs.

And the England mainstay felt that a positive approach was pivotal to her side’s success.

“The wicket had a bit in it, so we were happy to only be two down after the first ten overs,” she reflected.

“I think we had the worst of the conditions with the toss – it was a hot day, and the pitch flattened out in the second innings.

“But Sarah [Bryce, who made 52] and I play at our best when we have to take on our scoring options to put them under pressure. Their attack could have settled in and there could have been a ball with our names on it, so I was really happy with the intent we played with.

“Sarah and I probably had to go on a bit longer really, but it was great to see the rebuild from Orla [Prendergast, who made 34] and Ella [Claridge, who made 38], and those last runs from Josie [Groves, 26], Grace [Ballinger, 19] and Charley [Phillips, 11] were really important.”

The Blaze bowlers were then able to keep Warwickshire’s powerhouse duo of Abbey Freeborn and Sterre Kallis on a leash in their opening powerplay, with only 28 runs scored – which Beaumont feels directly contributed to the wickets which followed.

“The only other thing I could have asked for in the first ten overs was a wicket!” she said.

“But Grace and Charley were outstanding, they deserved a wicket, and that reward ultimately came after the powerplay when the pressure had really built.

“All four seamers executed beautifully, and it got to the point where Warwickshire really had to come hard at us.

“It was getting pretty nervy at the back end of the game, but credit to the bowlers, they’ve done a lot of work on their death plans, and to see them execute under pressure was outstanding.”

Beaumont reached 5,000 career List A runs during the win over Warwickshire – over 4,000 of which have come in the colours of her country.

But she maintained that personal accolades were never at the front of her mind.

“I feel like the more milestones you tick off, the older you feel!” she joked.

“It’s certainly not something that you go out there thinking about, but it’s it’ll be nice to look back at at the end of my career.

“Hopefully there are a few more milestones to come in orange, and with the Three Lions as well.”
