Dillon Pennington ran through Yorkshire's lower order on the final day of Nottinghamshire's Rothesay County Championship clash, taking three of the final four wickets to see his side to victory at Headingley for the first time since 2011.

The paceman returned figures of 5/106 as Notts emerged triumphant by 163 runs to consolidate their position at the top of Division One.

After Pennington removed Harry Duke with the last ball of day three, Matthew Revis joined George Hill at the crease at the start of the final day with Yorkshire needing 287 runs with five wickets in hand.

The pair settled into the day well, giving the Notts attack few opportunities within the first hour despite Muhammad Abbas coming close to a run-out.

With only two overs until the new ball became available, Freddie McCann came into the attack and bowled Hill with his very first ball to split up a partnership of 54.

Pennington then came into the attack and beat the outside edge of Yorkshire captain Dom Bess numerous times before his side eventually went into lunch 239/6.

He got his reward almost instantly after the break, as he tempted Revis and found the edge which was taken easily by Kyle Verreynne.

Consistent line and length was on show from Pennington throughout the day, and his fourth wicket arrived in similar fashion, grazing Dom Bess’ glove on its way through to Verreynne.

The fast-bowler then wrapped up his third career five-wicket haul, and second for Notts, by removing Ben Coad in his 28th over of the innings, Verreynne picking up his fifth catch of the innings.

It took over an hour for the final wicket to fall, with Abbas doing the honours as Notts ensured they would remain at the head of the table with half of their campaign completed.
